Doctoral Admissions

6-Stage Ph.D. Admission Procedure

Prescribed by Board of Research Studies (BRS), Faculty of Interdisciplinary & Applied Sciences

The admission process begins with an official notification issued by the University of Delhi on the official admission portal. Eligible candidates submit online applications, select the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and upload all required academic credentials, NET/JRF certificates, and identity verifications.

Admissions are governed by national eligibility benchmarks. Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET, AYUSH-NET, or fellowship holders are exempt from the national entrance examination and proceed directly to interview screening. Non-exempt candidates appear for the DU/NTA Ph.D. Computer Based Entrance Examination.

Shortlisted applicants must prepare and submit an original, well-structured Research Proposal covering the Problem Statement, Review of Literature, Hypotheses, Methodology, Instrumentation (e.g. EMG, Gas Analyzer, Motion Analysis), and potential societal contribution to physical education or sports sciences.

Candidates defend their proposal in person before the Departmental Research Committee (DRC). The committee evaluates the candidate’s research competence, mastery over methodology, depth in physical education sciences, and feasibility of the research work in the department’s laboratories.

Recommendations of selected candidates made by DRC are placed before the Board of Research Studies (BRS), Faculty of Interdisciplinary and Applied Sciences for final statutory approval. Research supervisors are formally allocated based on research specialization and vacant seats.

Upon payment of university admission fees, scholars receive provisional enrollment. All admitted scholars must successfully complete one semester of mandatory Ph.D. Course Work (Research Methodology, Advanced Statistics, and Specialization paper) before topic finalization.
